Reverend Paul Offhaus
Pastor

In 2012, Pastor Paul Offhaus became St. John’s 14th Pastor since 1853. Pastor Paul had previously been Associate Pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne since March 2003. Prior to that, Pastor Paul was in Michigan where he served as a mission developer and pastor of Community of Hope Lutheran, Mt. Clemens, MI.

Pastor Paul graduated with honors from St. Olaf College (Northfield, Minnesota) in 1990, with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Pastor Paul enrolled at Trinity Lutheran Seminary (Columbus, Ohio) in the fall of 1994 with his internship year was spent at Cross Lutheran (Clinton Township, MI), He graduated in June 1998 from Trinity with a Master of Divinity and was ordained in July.

Pastor Paul and his wife Heather enjoy taking walks, working on home improvement projects, and spending time with their two daughters, Abigail Grace and Hannah Faith.

Pastor Paul developed a personal mission statement, which reads as follows: “The journey of transformation occurs when I ENJOY the life God has given me, LEARNING, LOVING, and RISKING along the way.” He is excited about what the future may holds in terms of working together to both be and make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Martin Gigler
Organist

Martin joined the staff of St. John in April, 2007 as the principal of our Christian Day School. When the previous organist resigned in October of that year he was asked if he would be interested in acting as interim organist and then several months later as the regular organist.

It is a joy for Martin to serve at St. John in the music ministry, in other capacities, and to get to know the many dear people of the congregation. It is also a joy to grow in faith together through worship, prayer, Bible study, mutual encouragement and fellowship. Martin feels strongly that the primary objective of life is to follow the teachings of Christ as taught in the Bible and to share the Gospel with others. His motto is “Soli Deo Gloria” (All for the Glory of God).

Jamie Robbins
Parish Secretary

Jamie is a born and raised member of St John Lutheran Church with her parents and grandparents all being an active part of the church family as she was growing up. So it was no surprise that she felt a great desire to be a part of the community of St John and so when the secretary position opened in 1998 she jumped at the chance to be considered for the position. Jamie has held various positions throughout her life including hairstylist (which she still keeps a license for), also worked in various positions at K & K Insurance, and tried a short period in daycare, but found and stuck with her love to work with computers and people as a true calling and has enjoyed her work at St John throughout her years there.

Although the closing of St John School was a very hard time for her and her family it is her great hope and prayers that we will eventually have some sort of early education become a part of St John again. Her children, Alyssa and Mikel, were the 5th generation of her family to have been educated by St John Lutheran School in their 150+ years of being in existence and she considers that a huge part of her family history! Jamie and her husband Greg reside in Fort Wayne, IN and are still active in the life of St John.

  1. Hi, Jamie,

Just wanted to let you know that we will plan to access the newsletter online from now on. You don’t need to send us a hard copy by snail mail. It’s good to keep up with all that’s happening at St. John’s.

  2. Good Afternoon

My name is Ryan Briggs and I am your Senior Account Manager for Comcast Business here in Fort Wayne. I wanted to see if you would be available for a quick meet and greet here in the near future. I would love to learn a little bit more about your business and also show you some of the new solutions that Comcast has to offer. Do you have any time here in the next week? Please let me know a day and time that works best and I will try and make it happen!

    Thanks!
    Ryan

  3. Church Historian

I’m looking for a Fort Wayne Lutheran church that married my great grandparents on 19 Sep 1850. They were: Frederick or Gottfield (most likely “Gottfried”) Schneider born 12 Oct 1825 in Wuertemberg, Germany and Johannetta Henrietta Bachelier born 26 Oct 1831 in Ludweiler, Warndt, Saarland, Germany

Hopefully I’ll learn what specific German community Frederick or Gottfried came from. So far I’ve found recorded entries refer to his birthplace merely as “Germany.” In Fort Wayne he worked for the Bass Foundry and eventually became a farmer in nearby Arcola where he died 31 Mar 1898.

Thank you very very much for your effort.

    Sincerely,

    Jim Gunn

  4. My name is Erik Tom, and I am a student at IPFW that is hoping to spread awareness for a great faith based family event coming up on the IPFW campus. This event is a charity run in which 100% of the proceeds will go towards the international group Destiny Rescue. This group is dedicated to fighting child slavery around the globe and spreading the love of Jesus to those they help. I am hoping that you and your church might be willing to let your community know about our event that will be on April 22nd in the evening. It is going to be a fun night with fellowship, food, and of course a run for a good cause. If you feel that some in your congregation might be interested, just contact me at this email address, tomec01@students.ipfw.edu , and I would be very happy to send you an electronic copy of our flyer. With your help we can make a real difference in the lives of these children. I truly appreciate any help you can provide in spreading this to fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
    Thank you,
    Erik Tom

  5. Hello Jim, sorry for the late response to this email but it most likely was not St John where they would have been married as we weren’t founded till 1853. We had some members come from St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, perhaps it was there that they got married and maybe they might have information you are looking for. They are located on Barr Street in downtown Fort Wayne also. Good luck with your search!

  6. Erik, you are welcome to send us an electronic copy of a flyer for this event. We will forward it to our membership via email this Friday and, if space permits, include it in our bulletin info this coming Sunday. Sorry for the short notice (and slow reply time), but we would need this info by end of day today, Thursday, April 16th.

Email it to our secretary, Jamie Robbins, at sjluth@stjohnluth.com, and mention my email reply to your post on our website.

    Sincerely,
    Pastor Paul Offhaus
